The Fateful Crash and the Grim Discovery

On the morning of June 22, Olmsted County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash at the I-90/Hwy. 42 interchange just south of Eyota. The vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Margot Lewis from North Liberty, Iowa, had entered the median at a high rate of speed and crashed into a guardrail protecting the Hwy. 42 overpass support pillar. When the deputies arrived at the scene, they found Lewis sitting in a folding chair in the grass median, provided by a bystander. Witnesses informed the responding deputy that an injured or deceased person was in the crashed vehicle. Approaching the car, the deputy made a chilling discovery – the body of 35-year-old Liara Tsai of Minneapolis, wrapped in a bed sheet, a blanket, a futon-style mattress, and a tarp. Tsai's body was positioned with her head towards the passenger side and her feet facing the driver's side, with the back seats folded down.

The Grim Details and the Unanswered Questions

The court filing indicates that Tsai had a large wound around her carotid artery on the right side of her neck and was cold to the touch. The complaint also notes that the bed sheet appeared to be soaked with dried blood. Authorities have not yet released any information on the cause and manner of Tsai's death, as the autopsy confirmed that her demise was not a result of the auto accident. The investigation has raised numerous questions, as Lewis has not provided any statement to law enforcement. The Minneapolis Police Department, however, has revealed that they found evidence of a violent scene after executing a search warrant at Tsai's home on Saturday evening, further adding to the mystery surrounding this tragic case.

The Legal Proceedings and the Charges

Margot Lewis was arrested on the morning of the incident and formally charged with a count of interference with a dead body or scene of death – conceal body. She made her first appearance in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday morning, and her next court date has yet to be scheduled. The criminal complaint filed against Lewis provides a chilling account of the deputy's discovery of Tsai's body, painting a grim picture of the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community eagerly awaits answers and justice for the victim.

The Ongoing Investigation and the Search for Answers

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and the Minneapolis Police Department are working in tandem to unravel the mystery surrounding Liara Tsai's death. With the evidence gathered at the scene and the search warrant executed at Tsai's home, investigators are diligently piecing together the events that led to this tragic outcome. As the investigation continues, the authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may aid in shedding light on this case. The community is rallying together, hoping that the truth will emerge and that justice will be served for the victim and her loved ones. This tragic incident has left a profound impact on the region, serving as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of vigilance in the face of such grim circumstances.
