Sun River Mud Bog Races raise money for community

Mud Bog Races: Where Community and Motorsports Collide for a Cause

In the heart of Sun River, a small community comes together to celebrate the thrill of motorsports and the power of giving back. The Sun River Mud Bog Races, hosted by Merja Farms Inc., have become a beloved tradition that brings racers from all around to compete in a unique and challenging event, all while supporting local causes.

Unleashing the Power of Mud and Community

Mud Bog Races: A Unique Motorsports Spectacle

The Sun River Mud Bog Races are a one-of-a-kind event that showcases the raw power and skill of drivers as they navigate through a sea of mud. From Side by Side Mud Drags to Sand Drags, Slime Races, and Tough Truck courses, the races offer a diverse array of challenges that test the limits of both man and machine. The courses are designed to push the boundaries of what's possible, with racers sinking up to six inches into the thick, gooey mud.For the participants, the Mud Bog Races are more than just a competition; they're a chance to be part of a tight-knit community of motorsports enthusiasts. "The race family is incredible," says Elliot Merja, the founder of Merja Farms Inc. "They've been coming for years, and the relationships we get with them is just incredible."

Giving Back: The Heart of the Mud Bog Races

But the Mud Bog Races are not just about the thrill of racing; they're also about giving back to the community. All the money raised from the races goes directly to support local causes, such as the Sun River Robotics Club or individuals in need. "We've just been doing it for the robotics," Merja explains. "Like one of the racers had a leukemia blood issue and needed money. And so we raised money for them, and then another one had a cancer problem, and we raised money for them too."This commitment to community is what sets the Mud Bog Races apart. It's not just about the competition; it's about using the power of motorsports to make a real difference in people's lives. For the racers, this sense of purpose adds an extra layer of meaning to their participation.

Expanding Horizons: Racers Embrace the Mud Bog Challenge

The Mud Bog Races attract a diverse group of racers, from seasoned veterans to newcomers eager to test their skills. For some, like Shelby Fowler and her 1973 Chevy K20, the event represents a chance to venture beyond their usual racing grounds."This is our first time here. We've never raced here," Fowler, a member of the Eureka Dune Runners, explains. "We usually go as far as Roy and Drummond, and then that's about as much as we race. So this year are going a little bit out of our comfort zone."But the thrill of the challenge and the welcoming community spirit of the Mud Bog Races make it worth the journey. "You get to meet a lot of different people," Fowler says. "We've met a lot of people across the state that we've made really good friends with. So...racing communities is always a family community. So it's good."Whether they're seasoned racers or newcomers to the sport, the participants in the Mud Bog Races share a common bond: a love of motorsports and a desire to make a positive impact on their community.
